As more women across the country look to restore their bodies after pregnancy, the NYC Mommy Makeover Center is meeting that demand with a personalized, patient-first approach to combined cosmetic surgery.
Nationally, interest in mommy makeover procedures continues to climb. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported a 5% increase in cosmetic surgery procedures from 2022 to 2023, with 19% overall growth since 2019. Tummy tucks and breast lifts, two core components of most mommy makeover plans, rose 5% and 7%, respectively, during that same period. With nearly 3.6 million births each year in the United States, the patient pool for post-pregnancy body contouring keeps expanding.
That trend is especially visible in New York City. Busy moms across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the surrounding boroughs are no longer waiting years to address the physical changes that come with pregnancy and breastfeeding. They want results, and they want a surgeon who understands how to tailor a plan to their body and their lifestyle.
A Customized Approach to the Modern Mommy Makeover
Today's mommy makeover looks very different from what it did a decade ago. It is no longer a one-size-fits-all combination of a tummy tuck and breast lift. Patients now have access to a wider range of surgical options that can be combined in a single procedure.
'Every patient who walks through our doors has a different body, different goals, and a different story,' said Dr. Ari Hoschander, board-certified NYC mommy makeover plastic surgeon. 'Our job is to listen first and then build a surgical plan around what that patient actually needs.'
Common procedure combinations include a tummy tuck with liposuction, breast augmentation with a lift, and body contouring procedures like liposuction of the hips and flanks. Some patients also choose to add a Brazilian butt lift or address areas like the arms and thighs. The goal is always a natural, proportional result that fits the patient's frame.
Why More Moms Are Choosing Combined Procedures
One of the biggest reasons mommy makeovers have grown in popularity is efficiency. A combined approach means one surgery, one round of anesthesia, and one recovery period. For working moms in New York City who are managing careers, childcare, and daily life, that matters.
'Moms don't have time for three or four separate surgeries spread out over a year,' says the NYC surgeon. 'A mommy makeover lets us address multiple concerns at once so our patients can get back to their lives faster.'
Advances in surgical techniques and recovery protocols have also played a role. Patients today experience shorter recovery times and less discomfort compared to just five years ago. Many are able to return to light daily activities within 10 to 14 days.
A Growing Shift Toward Younger Patients
The demographics of mommy makeover patients are also shifting. Women are no longer waiting until their 40s or 50s to explore their options. Younger patients in their late 20s and 30s are now the fastest-growing group.
This shift reflects a broader change in how women think about self-care after pregnancy. Social media, greater access to patient education, and reduced stigma around cosmetic procedures have all contributed to the trend. Many prospective patients begin their research by reviewing before and after mommy makeover photos online, which gives them a realistic picture of what results look like on different body types.
'We're seeing more patients who are done having children and want to feel like themselves again,' said Dr. Hoschander. 'They've done the research. They know what they want. And they're ready to take that step.'
