New report shows EU ordering larger number of migrants to leave

However, France has issued the largest number of such orders, with 33,450 migrants being ordered to leave its territory in April to June, making up over one-third of the 96,550 EU total

BRUSSELS, Belgium: The European Union's statistics office, Eurostat, said the number of non-EU citizens ordered to leave Italy rose by more that 2,000 percent from April to June, as compared to January to March.

Eurostat added that in the second quarter, Italy ordered 6,020 people to leave its territory, compared with 260 in the first quarter of 2022, the greatest increase among EU countries.

However, France has issued the largest number of such orders, with 33,450 migrants being ordered to leave its territory in April to June, making up over one-third of the 96,550 EU total.

The next largest was in Greece, which ordered 8,750 non-EU citizens to leave.

Among migrants, Algerians received the largest number of such orders, with about 8,170 people ordered to leave, closely followed by Moroccans, Albanians and Pakistanis.

France also led, in terms of returning non-EU citizens to another country, following an order to leave for 3,590 migrants, accounting for 16 percent of the EU's total returns.

Albanians topped the list of returnees, followed by Georgians and Russians.

The total number of orders to leave issued within the EU increased 15 percent year-on-year, while the number of people returning to another country rose by 11 percent.
